Important Census Information!

WHAT: The census is a count of everyone residing in the United States.

WHO: All U.S. residents must be counted - people of all races and ethnic groups, both citizens and non-citizens!

WHEN: Census Day is April 1, 2010. Questionnaire responses should represent the household as it exists on this day. More detailed socioeconomic information will be collected annually from a small percentage of the population through American Community Survey.

WHY: The Constitution requires a national census every 10 years. The census will show state population counts and determine the representation in the U.S. House of Representatives.

HOW: Questionnaires will start to arrive at each household in February and March. As soon as you receive yours, answer and send it back. Many households will receive a replacement questionnaire in early April. Census workers also will visit households that do not return questionnaires.

With only 10 questions, the 2010 Census questionnaire is one of the shortest questionnaires in the history and takes just 10 minutes to complete.

By the law, the Census Bureau cannot share an individual's census questionnaire with anyone, including other federal agencies and law enforcement entities.

Please Be Involved!! :)

Shelters Participation in Point In Time Survey!

The Annual Homeless Point In Time (PIT) count is happening this week. This years count will survey clients about where they were staying on Thursday, January 28, 2010. Unsheltered surveys will be done by local volunteers on Friday at various locations around the county and Saturday at Project Homeless Connect at The Coliseum in St. Pete.

Once collected, this data is aggregated and analyzed. Finally, we are required to submit it to local, state, and federal homeless planning organizations. These reports are due before April 1, 2010. Based on the data our community submits, we are allocated dollars to support homeless services in our community. The better the data, the better our chance at sustainable funding.

Again, this year, we are asking TBIN Member Agencies to enter your client data into the TBIN system as you normally would. Please pay close attention to entering all Universal Data Elements (some of them changed last fall) for all clients served on January 28, 2010. Due to the report deadlines and time needed for data analysis, your facilities data needs to be entered into TBIN no later than February 26, 2010. If you are behind on your data entry, please prioritize your January 28, 2010 client data to ensure it is entered by February 26, 2010.

Lastly, the first week of February, we will be sending you an agency survey and asking you to complete it with aggregate information about the clients you served on January 28, 2010 at your facility. The data on this survey will be compared with the client data you enter in TBIN to ensure we have accurate and timely PIT data. We will contact you about any data quality errors and ask for your assistance to resolve any discrepancies.

Your continued assistance and support with the numerous data projects this year is greatly appreciated. As always, if you have any questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us at 727-210-4239 option 6.

Thank you for your time and have a great day.
